Your pet and heart disease

Our cardiology department is led by Dr. Eryn Leffers, a board-certified cardiologist. She utilizes non-invasive testing to diagnose and manage common cardiac diseases, including valve disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, and arrhythmias. In addition, she is trained in diagnosing congenital heart defects in dogs and cats. If your dog or cat has suspected or confirmed heart disease, we encourage you to visit the NIVES Cardiology department for a consultation.

Common symptoms of heart disease include:

  • Fast or labored breathing

  • Coughing

  • Reluctance to play or exercise

  • Collapsing or fainting

  • Distension or enlargement of the abdomen
