FAQs

Do I need to make an appointment?

We are open for emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. No appointment is necessary for emergency cases. Specialty consultations (Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Cardiology) are available Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made by calling our hospital at (260) 426-1062.

Can I visit my pet during hospitalization?

We encourage visits from owners but ask that you call first to let us know you are coming. We allow visitation between 10 am and 10 pm. Please keep in mind that there may be a short wait if the staff is working with a critical patient. We make every effort to accommodate you and your family.

Can I leave personal items with my pet?

Yes. We will do our best to keep track of your pet’s items during his or her stay. We cannot guarantee that the items will be returned; therefore, sentimental items should be left at home. We have a variety of diets available but if your pet is on a special diet, you can leave that with us.

Can I come to your office for routine care?

We do not offer routine preventative care such as vaccines, dental cleanings, and spays/neuters. Our hospital acts as an extension of your family vet and we work closely with them to ensure the best veterinary care for your pet.

Where do I take my pet for follow-up care?

NIVES works in collaboration with your primary veterinarian to provide the best comprehensive care for your pet. We will fax or email a summary after each visit to keep them up-to-date on your pet’s status. Follow-up visits may be done at NIVES or with your primary veterinarian depending on your pet’s condition.

What form of payment do you accept?

Payments can be made by cash, check, debit, credit, CareCredit, or ScratchPay. We do not offer payment plans other than those established with a third-party company; CareCredit or ScratchPay.

We take great care to communicate openly about potential treatments and related costs. We will also keep you informed on the status of your bill and we will do our best to work within the budget you have established for your pet’s care. Any balance still due when care is complete is due upon discharge.
