Dr. Haydett Hilton is originally from Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, and is joining the NIVES team after graduating from Michigan State University with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Prior to vet school, she attended Defiance College where she developed a passion for public health while carrying out community-based research in Tanzania, Africa. After receiving her degree in Molecular Biology from Defiance College, Dr. Haydett Hilton accepted a position at Texas Tech University within the Biological Threat Research Laboratory, completing research focused on wildlife diseases and vector-borne zoonoses. She graduated in 2018 with her Master’s in Environmental Toxicology and returned to Michigan to attend vet school. Throughout her time in clinics, she really enjoyed the diversity and fast pace of emergency medicine. During her senior year, she was awarded the Small Animal Clinical Sciences Award at Michigan State and the Merck Academic Excellence Award.

Dr. Haydett Hilton also completed an externship at NIVES which helped her interest and passion for small animal emergency medicine grow even more and lead her to accept a position with the NIVES team after graduation. When not at work, Dr. Haydett Hilton enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband Joe, their chickens, and their Irish Setter Weston.
