Critical care is a distinctive specialty in veterinary medicine, demanding extensive training across all aspects of patient care. At Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital (NIVES), our hospitalized patients benefit from the expertise of our board-certified critical care specialist—a veterinarian who has completed advanced, specialized training to provide the highest level of care for our most fragile and complex patients. Working closely with our skilled medical team, our criticalist oversees and guides treatment plans to ensure each patient receives the most advanced and compassionate care possible.

Our ICU team at NIVES uses the most current medical treatments and nursing techniques to stabilize, support, and aid in the recovery of unstable patients. With our multi-specialty approach, specialists from different disciplines work together to ensure every patient receives the exceptional care they deserve. Criticalists often lead this collaboration, designing comprehensive, multimodal treatment plans and overseeing their implementation.

In addition to providing round-the-clock care for hospitalized patients, our Criticalist is available to support our emergency team in the rapid stabilization and treatment of life-threatening cases.
